I'm looking for clarification on 406.12 and the changes in 2017, particularly 406.12(6) which sends you to 518.2. Does this mean all locations listed in 518.2 are required to have TR receptacles? If so, what is a multipurpose room?
Thanks

Pretty much everywhere a child may expected to be is included. Multi purpose is just that. If you can use it for about anything, it’s included.

In residential that's darn near every room in the house. Just about the only place the kids don't mess around in is the kitchen. No, wait, I forgot about the kitchen table. OK, make it "That's every room in the house."

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm wondering what non-residential locations now require TR? Some of the examples in 518.2 are conference rooms and restaurants, making no mention of whether children are present or not. Could this be interpreted as all receptacles in restaurants must be TR? Seems to me this was not the intent, but the wording is rather sloppy.

They are required everywhere. The language is sloppy because the CMPs want to act like none of their changes are driven by electrical manufacturer insiders.

Definitely behind the fryers. Never know when a little ******* will wander away while his parents are glued to their cell phones, go into the kitchen, grab a fork from the dish washer. and climb up on one and stick the fork into the receptacle. Can't be too careful.:jawdrop:

Seriously- no.
