Track Light Install

I was looking for some ideas for a track light install. I have to install a long row of track, standard track 42 pieces with six lights each. They would like to hang it two feet below a standard drop ceiling. Which ways could I suspend the track from the ceiling. All thread or maybe a cable system. I have not installed that many in one line. Any thing else that might help? Thanks Eddie

Juno and WAC both make suspension kits for the line and low voltage systems. Uhm, you said 42 pieces off track? With 6 lights each? That can't be right. That would be 336' of track and 256 heads?

According to ('02 NEC) 220.12(B), you need to allow 150va per 2' of track, so that means 25.2Kva, which is 210a 1ph, or 10.5 20a circuits. Of course, the lighting should be considered continuous, so that means 31.5Kva, or 262a, or 13.125 circuits.

(Of course, I recommend rounding up.)

Now, if you have 3-phase power available, you can divide the load in thirds, so you could use (leaving out the silly numbers) five 3ph MWBC's, versus 15 1ph runs, which would save a bit on labor. You might look into using multi-circuit track, too.

I guess that was what I was getting at. I've done commercial track runs but multi-circuit and lots of drops. The suspension deal gets a little tricky as you cant supply with #12 in the downrod. Limited to #14 that I've seen. But I haven't seen it all.

A piece of MC, zip tied to the suspension cable and painted to match the track or ceiling grid doesn't really look all that bad, in my opinion.

Jet Line

Jet Line

Could only think Jet Line, and hate the thought of wearing laser glasses.

Google'd jet line string, lol ... Read the first listing, here

Never thought of that. I always used the rod type end feed (which cost more). The rail supports are pretty cheap and MC is cheaper. Standard end feeds would accept an MC con as long as it was the lockring type and not the snap-ins. Those would be too deep into the end feed body. Thanks for the tip!

If it fits your budget, try hanging Kindorf with threaded rod and then attach your track to that.
If the run is as long as it appears, it's going to look like a giant snake if you don't stiffen it up somehow.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to try some threaded rod with MC. Good point dezwitinc with trying to stiff up the track I would hate to get half way down the run and go "Oh S***"

And how!
