Track Lighting Load Calculations

Article 220-12(b) of the 1999 NEC no longer states that where multi-circuit track is installed, the load shall be considered to be divided equally between the circuits; as it did in Article 410-102 of the 1996 NEC.

Does this no longer apply? I hope not. I'm designing a furniture showroom that is nothing BUT two circuit track lighting.

Thanks.

Re: Track Lighting Load Calculations

The 2002 code has the same language as the 96. With this in mind, I would talk to your AHJ and see what his/her thoughts are on calling it an alternative method and using 90.4 :) Myself, as an AHJ, would allow this without a seconds thought. Hope this helps ;) Let me add to that: I have called the 75 watt per foot rule many times in the field, and I admire the fact you know of it and are addressing it.

Re: Track Lighting Load Calculations

I appreciate your help with this. I didn't think to check 2002. I have to admit that I know of this rule because I was called on it once during the plan review process.

I will definitely get in touch with my local codes administration to get their input.

Thanks again,

Craig
