Track lighting

Have I been mis-interpreting this? I was just reading in my 99' NEC (don't have 02' here now) about track lighting, specifically 220-12(b). I just realized that this is under the article for feeders and services.

The scope of article 220 is: "This article provides requirements for computing branch-circuit, feeder, and service loads".

With that in mind, I have asked on plan reviews to accomodate 150 Volt-amps for every two feet of track on the branch circuit !!! Is this only for the feeder/service calculations? If so, is there an errata to it or was it changed in the 2002? I really hope I haven't been calling this incorrectly!

Re: Track lighting

i inturpret this article being for feeder calculations.

art.410.101b states that the connected load not exceed the mfg rating and that the branch circuit not exceed this rating.

hope this helps.

If you are using the 96, 99 or 02 NEC there is no limit to the length of track on a branch circuit. 220-12(b) requires a load of 150va for every 2' of track but this only applies to feeders and service calculations. In the 93 NEC 220-3(c)(5) referenced you to 410-102 which required 180va per 2' of track to be used for branch circuit calculations.

Re: Track lighting

Well....Looks like I blew it! Thanks gentlemen, for your replies. I will stop calling that on plan review. Its funny, I always referenced the code article on my review, but never did I get any rebuttal about it. Also, does anyone know why you have to consider the service/feeder calc's in this manner but not the branch circuit?
