Tracking Panel Schedule Loads in Excel

I'm having to add load to multiple panels on a project that has already been designed. The problem I'm having is that whenever I add load I have to make sure that the panel/OCPD it is feed out of is not overloaded. This can be very time consuming. Does anyone know of a better way of tracking loads.

I have used two different Excel files at two different companies, to do this very task. Both were set up by individuals working for the company, so I am not at liberty to share them. Both included a complex set of macros, to enable the user to do such things as link downstream panels to the panels from which they are fed, take into account the impact of a step-down transformer between linked panels, correctly add single phase and three phase loads to get a total load on a panel, account separately for various types of loads (e.g., receptacles, motors, kitchen appliances, and non-coincident loads), automatically apply any allowable demand factors, automatically calculate 125% of the largest motor load, and automatically recognize when a panel, overcurrent device, or conductor was overloaded.

There are simpler spreadsheets available, and I believe some are available free of cost. But I don?t use them, and can?t help you find them.

Would you consider asking? :-?

Charlie,

Thanks for your response. I have already set up the panel schedules to included the load distribution with the connected and demand loads indicated. I was just wondering if somebody might have a macro that could create a new sheet in the panel schedule file and list the panel schedules with the associated loads and what it was fed from e.g.

Panel 1A
800A MCB
656 A (Demand)

Panel 1B
400A MLO
230 A (Demand)
Fed From 1A

Wouldn't a "IF" function (and associated true/flase values) make easy( well, easier) work for you?

Excel is a very powerful program. To use it to it's fullest, the user would need to know more than that you can add cells to get a value. Even an "Excell for Dummies" or the "Video Professor" would greatly assisst a user.

Sorry. No can do. The companies are competitors with my present employer. I wouldn't anticipate getting any cooperation.

Good call Charlie, I could only imagine what your former employers would say, "you want our panel schedules? Sure why not. In fact could I supply you with anything else that was developed on my dime?" Okay probably not.

I have developed my own panel schedules in excel. If a panel is subfed I link the cell so it updates automatically. I have a column to indicate whether the load is continuous or non-continuous. It works well for me. I copy and paste special into ACAD. It has been a work in progress quite a while as I keep adding information I need to the panel schedule. Send me a private message and I'll email a copy to you that you can try and see if it works for you. Regards.
