Hello,

Has anyone had any experience with using a tractor with a trenching implement in order to dig a trench? On the surface it looks like it would work just as effectively as a standard riding trencher but I am concerned about the size of the trenching implement and the PTO connection and the strain that would be placed on it.

Thanks,

Amen brother. I despise trenching but don't trust others to fill the trench in without putting rocks in the trench that will damage the cable.

That's going to be a problem in your area. The rocks would give a trencher a fit. When I worked with the prison system we had to install water lines around to Albemarle area. After I dug the ditch with the backhoe we had to bed the bottom of the ditch with sand and then cover the line with about 2ft of sand to keep the rocks off of the line.

That is a lot of sand but good insurance.

I am glad that in my area electricians don't trench. Much cheaper to sub it out along with the risks.

Might be cheaper, but if I waited for others to dig my trenches I would be five years behind with underground installations, well at least with what to me are lesser important jobs, like a lady I have on my mind that needs underground run to a garage behind her house.

Purchase excavation equipment and you will get others wanting to sub you to dig for them, which you need to help pay for and maintain that excavation equipment anyway. You can rent equipment I guess, but for me closest rental place is 45 miles away, you are not going to rent something for 1/2 day with that kind of drive time just to pick up and return equipment.
