Hi everyone. I am trying to install a transfer switch at my house. I live in Florida and we have hurricane madness here. I have a 7500 W generator. I would like to know if it’s possible to merely switch my entire breaker panel over to the generator using ONE switch.

I’ve done some research myself and I see that there are transfer switch kits with 10 circuits that all have breakers. Before I purchased something I wanted to see if my initial idea is practical and possible or if it’s simply not possible, highly discouraged, or violates the NEC.

I would have the main breaker feed the switch. The common on the switch would be ALL breakers down stream from the main breakers.

The switch would either connect all breakers to the main breaker, OR it connect all breakers to the generator inlet box.

Yay or nay? 😅. TYIA!!

With that, I am closing this thread in accordance with forum rules. We are not allowed to assist a person who is not an electrician to perform their own electrical installation work.
