The Reliance transfer switch comes with regular breakers installed. They feed six AFCI/GFI breakers in the main panel. Isn't the generator a separately derived power source? The inspector here wants me to put AFCI breakers in the Reliance, but there's no place for the neutrals in there. Any help? Thanks...

Welcome to the forum. If the transfer switch does not switch the neutral then it is not considered a separately derived system.

Code states that if you extend a circuit then you must include afci protection unless it is 6' or less. I can see this as an issue especially if there is no neutral bar. I guess you can add a bar.

When the TS goes from utility power to generator power, the feed to the loads does not go through the the AFCI breakers. it goes from the TS breakers straight to the loads. So the circuit is not AFCI protected when on gen power.

That never occurred to me. But I've never installed one of those either.
