Would a manual transfer switch between two portable generators need to switch the neutral? Each generator has a N-G bond.

I believe so, with the internal bonds.

I'm having trouble picturing this because I don't know if the generators are tied to a common earth ground, or if there is bonding somewhere down stream.

Ah, I do see a potential for a back feed if one of the grounded conductors is open

Ok i saw the setup today. It is two diesel generators (120/208Y) mounted on one trailer. Common ground. They want to use a manual transfer switch to be able to move the load from one generator to the other. Can this be done with 3 poles or will the neutral have to be switched?

Since both are not online at the same time, and have a common grounding point, switching the neutral would not accomplish a whole lot.
