Transfer Switch

I am installing an emergancy generator in a residential home. Its an Honda portable generator. The the problem I am having is, if I install a cable with female end on one end and direct wire the end other end in the transfer switch is code. The female end would never be hot until it is plug into the generator and the switch is thrown. What is a better way to do this?

I doubt it is an emergency generator per artical 700

is the switch manual or automatically operated, if its manual there are a number of cord configurations to accomplish the connections

Flanged inlets are availble for the smaller generators. Mount this next to the transfer switch and hardwire it to the gen side of the switch. 3R enclosures with device are also available.
