I'm installing a 600 amp single phase transfer switch. The existing switchgear is a two piece 600 amp board. The utility is connected to buss in the left side of the gear, there are CT's. The transfer switch will be located in a room directly behind the switchgear. Now if we take a small piece of buss out and extend the utility, unfused, wire to the transfer switch, from the load side of the CT's, then come back from the transfer switch to the switchgear, the buss, won't that be using the existing switchgear for a j-box? Also the neutral is a solid piece of bussing, If I'm not mistaken, we will have to cut the buss in order to isolate the neutral, for the existing switchgear is now a sub panel. The transfer switch has a 600 single phase breaker for the utility cables.
Any ideas?
