Transfer Switch

I need to put in elevator contacts and delay in an old transfer switch that will not accept the new elevator controlls. Can I do this with a phase/voltage monitor and relays, or do I need something else.

The answer I got was to change the transfer switch

What symptom are you trying to correct?
Is the elevator feeder breaker trippping during transfer back to normal power?

If that is the case, and the transfer switch is compatible with an in-phase monitor and it transfers fast enough to prevent the two systems from drifting out of phase during the transfer time, it might work. No gurantees.

The elevator needs a delay in transfer to have time for the car to stop. In my research the best explanation is, the car moving creates voltage in the elevator controller, if the transfer happens at this point they have problems burning out controll boards.

Remember
If you add any devices to the transfer switch it will automatically void the approval by say UL. Buy an new one with this timer installed at the factory.

Exercising under load? Under normal power loss, there should be more than enough delay for the car to stop before transferring, so that shouldn't be an issue, but if you are exercising under load, I can see your problem.
