i have a customer who wants a transfer switch installed on his house fror his gas generators(5500 watts and 7500 watts)question is he wants both of them on at the same time. This is a 7000 SQFT house. he wants to power the downstairs with the little one and the upstairs with the big one. Do I need to transfer switches or can I just use 2 cords into one transfer switch.

It is very unlikely that you could synchronize the output of two generators of the size you refer. You will need two transfer switches serving separate panels.

You could do it if you had a service entrance which feeds a subpanel for the upstairs and a subpanel for the lower level. Then, apply a transfer switch to each one.
However, 5500w and 7500w is not very much wattage when the possible loads of each panel is considered. You may have to break out the critical loads of each panel to its own subpanel to isolate those loads for dedicated emergency loads to be served by each generator.

Maybe you could try to sell him 1 gen that is bigger. It would be twice the equipment and labor on your part to do 2 gens. Seems like a waist for a 5.5Kw gen. Sounds like the customer wants all to work and to do it for almost nothing.
You did not give much for details. Are these just portable units? What is the set up now with the service? How many panels, where, and what size?

Pumps, frig, freezers, furnaces, comunication equip., alarms., minimum lighting
Then they may want A/C's, kitchen equipment, computers, TV's, garage opener, and more lighting.
Lastly more outlets and outdoor lighting
Add it up and sell them what they want. Maybe 40KW?
