Just woke up to about 3 inches of new snow this morning after a day warm sunshiney weather. Seems there are a few pole transformer fires around the city this morning, and the excuse the poco used was because it was so warm and dry yesterday and it is wet and cold today. Does this make sense to anyone?

It does NOT make sense. This is very typical front range weather. "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes"

Dampness after a dry period often results in pole or transformer fires. The buildup of contaminates on the insulators become somewhat conductive when there is dampness. If you have a good rain it will often wash the insulators clean.

I work for a Power Company and fires of that type are not common . Most pole top fires are caused by either tree limbs , snakes or furry critters like squirrels or Raccoons .
