We currently have a project that is fed with an exterior Nema 3R main panel and an exterior Nema 3R 225 kva transformer. The owners have a need to expand the mechanical room on the end of the building where this electrical equipment is located. In lieu of moving all of the equipment they wanted to know if they could building the room around the panel and transformer and just relocate the meter to the exterior wall of the new expansion. Is there any reason (clearance, ventilation, code, etc.) that would prevent this from being ok?

Nothing in the code would prohibit constructing a room around an existing panel and transformer, even if they are rated for a harsher environment than they will get after the room is built. You would need maintain the required working clearance in front of the panel, but that is about the only issue.

You mentioned a meter. If it's a POCO transformer, you should check with them. Likely they won't be too happy. Access to transformers is usually a big deal.

Thank you for your responses!!! It is not a power company transformer, I just wanted to make sure that outside of making sure the room was fire rated I wasn't missing anything!!!
