I have a 112.5 kv 480v transformer mounted inside 10" under 2 panels mounted on the wall. The transformer is sticking out 20". I was told in class that this had to be 6" or less but I haven't been able to find it either in NFPA 70E or Code book. Couls someone point me in the right direction?

6" is indeed the limit. NEC article 110.26(A)(3). Welcome to the forum.
