We are planning to replace the main transformer (2500kVA) in our facility. The proposed location has an existing gas line next to it. I am trying to find the required clearance from the gas line, but I can't find anything about it in PG&E greenbook. Does anyone know what is the required clearance?

Thanks

No guidance on oil filled transformers per se with more than one transformer Factory Mutual FM10 standards call for 25 feet between transformers minimum for mineral oil. With vegetable oil they reduce it to 5 feet. This is based on what they call a pool fire…one ruptures and ignites its oil which surrounds others with a hot pool of burning oil leading to a chain reaction of failures. This goes for ANYTHING around transformer yards.

Natural gas piping is not normally considered a hazardous location even near valve trains. See for instance NFPA 85 and 86 which are burners and far more likely to create a hazard if it exists. A lot of gas burners have a dry step up transformer as a power source for a spark plug with no problems or history of issues.
