Transformer raceway installations

EMT is changed over to Greenfield to provide flexibility at a Transformer.

I would presume the flex provides less noise with the vibration of the Transformer.

I have noticed Transformers with raceways, protruding through the concrete slab, punched into the bottom raised and perforated portion of the Transformer.

The perforated portion of the raised bottom plate provides ventilation. The connector would not have as good of a connection as with the solid side, but a bonding bushing is used.

Would the installation through the slab and into the bottom of the Transformer be an approved installation? Would flexibility need to be provided as with Greenfield?

Any comments would be appreciated.

As long as your entering the transformer in an area allowed by the manufacturer you can use any method you want.

Flex, EMT, etc.

It is all a design decision.

No need to worry about vibration noise if the unit is located in a room with other noisy equipment.

On the other side if it's located in a quiet area you may want to use flex with vibration isolators under the legs of the transformer.

Often our job specs require us to use flex, hang the transformer from vibration isolators on the threaded rods and vibration isolators between the trapeze and the transformer.
