Transformer selection

We have a homeowner that bought a CNC machine that is 480v 3 phase. There is a 240v phase converter on site. So GE tech support told me that I needed a Delta/Delta 240/480v 3 phase step up transformer. That would mean I would have to intentionally bond a phase. Making it a corner grounded Delta. I have never done this and the GE tech support guy about popped his lid, when I told him that. So is this common on a new install or should we get a 240/480-277v 3 phase step up transformer?
