Transformer sizing

I have to size a transformer 480V/240V for a 35A 240V 3-P Chiller. The load is about 14KVA, is a 15KVA too small, or should I put in a 20 KVA ?

This would depend on whether you want to leave room for expansion. I believe a transformer is rated at 100% so you can get by with the 15kva unit

Chillers are motor loads and you need some extra capacity for start up.

One of the other members http://forums.mikeholt.com/member.php?u=85239 recently posted some guidelines for sizing transformers supplying motor loads.

Your going from 480V 3-ph to 240V high leg delta? Odd Choice, but ok....

What kind of chiller? They should have a cut sheet that says minimum circuit amps and MOCP along with other characteristics, e.g. starting info.

Most likely you will need at least a 30KVA. There is no such thing as a 20KVA standard size anyway.
