Will a transformer that has an open circuit on the secondary behave just as if it were an inductor with corresponding characteristics of the primary? Hope question is clear.

Re: Transformer w/ Open Secondary

J.C.,
You will see the primary resistance and leakage inductance in series with the parallel combination of the primary inductance and equivalent core loss resistance.

Re: Transformer w/ Open Secondary

His answer was also "yes." I'm sure he would never disagree with me. :D ;) ). The factors he described will influence the characteristics through which the remainder of the circuit will perceive the transformer. They determine the resistance and the inductive reactance of the primary windings. But the primary windings are going to behave like any other inductor that has the same resistance and the same inductive reactance.

Re: Transformer w/ Open Secondary

J.C., I believe the answer is "yes". You will see the primary equivalent circuit parameters and none of the secondary parameters. You should find a book with a description of the "exact equivalent circuit" of a transformer. Even if it is not widely used in the power industry, it provides a basic understanding of transformer action.
