If I was to pick 2 phases of a 3-phase 480-volt wye service and feed a single phase 480 to 240/120 single phase transformer, would there be any issues to consider? I don't know if the primary voltage sine wave being 120 (or 30)degrees out of phase would cause any issues. I would think not, but in reading the threads here, there are a lot smarter people on these boards. Comments are appreciated!

Re: transformers

It is done all of the time, simply taking 480v L-L of a 480y/277 or even a 480v delta to feed a 480v-120/240v single phase transformer unless there is something that you're omitting.

Re: transformers

You will have no problem, the single phase secondary will not care what primary is feeding it.

Re: transformers

The only issue I might suggest considering is the overall balancing of the load, as seen by the primary of the transformer. You are picking two legs. Fine and dandy, as the others have said. But if this is a large load (you didn't say), I might want to look at the other loads, to see if it might be worth shifting from one phase to another, just to make things more nearly balanced. Probably not an issue, but probably worth at least a thought.
