I am looking for information regarding any regulations having effect over a transmission lines project (230 KV) where an electric utility company is trying to cross a set of transmission lines over another identical set of lines, traveling at the same height, to avoid passing them through a specific area; according to the drawings they are supposed to be parallel lines and the engineer is changing the actual construction plans and crossing the lines at a certain point and then running them parallel again for about a mile and crossing them again to continue the original alignment.

I don't quite understand the situation but you can bet it will fly.

What are your concerns? Do you think it is unsafe?

Re: transmission lines regulations

I am with Bennie, what is the concern? if done in accordance with the NESC, I don't see any problem unless the lines are taken out of the easement.

Just because the original plans showed a certain construction, doesn't mean they can't be changed.

wcadilla: Type in...Power line magnetic fields, and hit go. There are many articles regarding both magnetic and energy fields.

Charlie is more versed in land easements, so I will leave it alone.

Good luck: Bennie

Re: transmission lines regulations

wcadilla: As stated by Charlie. The utility power transmission system is installed by the standards of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). This is the trademark of the International Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Counter to what many think, the NESC has very good procedures. A project done under the guidelines and requirements will be adaquate in performance and safety.
