Have a scenario where all we provided was 3 phase power to a disconnect for a trash compactor actually two of them each with own circuit and disconnect. Final connections were done by the trash compactor installers. Well I failed my final inspetion because they used SO cord to wire all their controls inside the building and outside and he cited 400.8(1) +(4). I agree with the inspector on this issue. I asked why he was failing me if I didn't have anything to do with that wiring and he said because it's electrical. We now have a change order to change the so cord to emt and liquidtight outside and repull control wiring. My question is why isn't the factory supplied 9 conductor so cord control cable allowed to be used if it's part of the equipment? They might as well not even manufacture it all then if you can't use it. Or is there some loop hole that allows the use of the cords provided? I mean one cord has a factory assembled/wired safety device that you can't rewire at all. All I can do with that is sleeve it in emt. This is commercial and equipment is fixed.
