Tray Cable in a residence

Okay hopefully I will post this correctly..:D

I know we have talked about this before but I am wiring a mini split system. The unit comes with TC to be run between the inside and outside unit. I don't see where this is allowed outside of a raceway or cable tray.

336.10(7) states in industrial est. ........ does this mean it is not allowed in a residence? Also I assume it must be in conduit.
 
Yes-- that what is strange to me. Why supply tray cable if we have to pipe it anyway.

So you think it is allowed in a residence if it is piped.

That's the way I read it and the way it's being enforced by most inspectors in this area, (in a raceway if residential)
