What are my options for running cable from a cable tray through a class 1 div 1 area to a junction box in a class 1 div 2 area.
We would like to use type TC cable and run it in conduit through the C1D1 area t the j box in the C1D2 area
armored cable does not work well in conduit and is expensive, but sealing sonduits with multiconuctor cables seems impossible if you have to break the jacket inside the small seal fitting--
HELP!!!

Thank you, that takes care of the seal at the j box end--what about the seal required at the C1D1/C1D2 boundary headed the cable tray where the conduit is open to the air??? How do I strip the jacket inside the conduit seal

You don't. The exception still applies. By definition, a conduit is an enclosure. (Read the definition of both raceway and enclosure.)

The cables are only required to be sealed at the terminations. See 501.10(D)(1).

The UL Guide Information for Type TC states:

Regarding cable seals outlined in Article 501 of the NEC, Type TC cable has a sheath which is considered to be gas/vapor tight but the cable has not been investigated for transmission of gases or vapors through its core

Therefore a seal at the termination and one within 18? of the boundary are all that is necessary. In this case, the seal should be on the Division 2 side of the boundary since the Type TC must be in the raceway in the Division 1 location.

BTW the termination seal and the boundary seal are not necessarily the same seal.

Essentially ask yourself ? if the jacket itself is ??considered to be gas/vapor tight?,? how will there be a transmission of ignitable materials if the end is sealed?
