I was in a old house today thats getting gutted and noticed some tray cable. Its like 12 or 14 stranded. I was not able to snap a photo and whatever it went to is gone. I thought it was some kinda UF or NM but it said TC and the weird color code I recognize as tray cable, I think the orange was used as a ground. Seems just as good as romex but got me wondering was this ever allowed?

Other than recently for the interconnection of mini-split systems, no. But it has been suggested.

Thanks I would guess it was an electrician or wire distributors house but its too fancy. I know at one time they made romex in black or blue outer plastic with a green insulated ground and there is some of that also.

Wish they made that a standard instead of the garbage we are sold today. That bare ground is a big problem especially in crowded boxes when it contacts the neutral screw on a receptacle and causes GFCI tripping.
