Any one here have advice on lighting up a tree say 30 foot of so. I know you can get some low voltage setups but I have noticed a few trees while driving down the highway and it looks from the road like they have 500 watts or so of lighting.
I was looking at a tree today and I know you cannot staple wire to the tree because the tree will grow and break the wire.
We are wanting to light the tree up in hopes to keeps some nusiance birds away at night.

Really..I didn't know that.

If you are concerned about the stapleing (which could cause the problem you mentioned), use PVC up the trunk of the tree.

That would take care of the trunk part but what about the limbs? How far apart and how much slack should the staples or whatever attachment means you are using have?
I have had to cut the wire out of a tree where the tree actually grew around the wire. All you could do was cut out what you could and leave the piece in the tree.

What I have done is once you attach your box, run PVC down the tree until you reach the ground. When you strap the conduit, use a strap that is one size larger than the conduit. This allows for the sway of the tree in windy situations. I used stainless steel screws to attach everything with. I sleeved uf cable through the conduit, but at the base of the tree leave some slack in the wire in a serpetine way to allow for the growth of the tree. I have had to go back about 7 years later to redo everything because of growth but found that all the screws were able to be removed and in some cases reused. Just a thought.
