Triplex use

I am having problems on construction sites with electricians that are using triplex wire for temporary installations. They claim that triples is allowed per NEC to feed into buildings through construction openings and into the temporary panels. I have always seen triplex used as a pole to pole cable where there is no chance of physical abuse as may be on construction sites. The connectors the electriciana are using are regular romex type connedtors too. I do not believe that there is a connector made to accept triplex into a temporary panel box.
What NEC code covers this.
