I installed an overhead service and used triplex ACSR bare neutral. This was on a PoCo pole, so I had 3R panel-meter base-riser-weatherhead. The triplex only ran from meter to weatherhead. Inspector said bare neutral was not allowed. I said that's what I use on temp poles all the time. He agreed but said not allowed on services. I asked for a reason and this is what he said............."The bare conductor from the PoCo is a grounded conductor. Once it reaches the weatherhead it is now a neutral".
That made it "clear as mud to me"! I never heard of such a rule as SE cable is used all the time with a bare neutral. Am I missing something?
