My friend lost power to 5 receptacles, and all the ceiling lights in a new master suite (4 years old).

He had plugged in a "repaired" power supply for a laptop and the lights went out.

I get there and first check the panel; flip ALL of the single pole breakers off/on than proceed to the suite. Still no power at the receptacles, no power for all the lights.

I checked out all the receptacles and the functioning ones near by (opened them). No suspects. Determined that there are no jboxes in the accessable attic above.

Found that the jacuzzi is also out.
Go back to the panel and measure voltage on every breaker.

One leg of the 240 breaker for the jacuzzi was out. The Cutler Hammer double pole breaker looked and felt like it was ON, but half was tripped. Turn double pole breaker off/on problem solved!!

Leasons learned,:
1) Cycle those double pole breakers too!
2) Cutler Hammer makes tricky breakers.
3) The person responsbile for wiring this suite was a moron. Master bedroom, large sitting room, double vanity sink, shower, jacuzzi, recessed lights, 2 ceiling fans, 1 exhaust fan, 1 240V jacuzzi .90% of this stuff on 1 SP15 amp circuit, the rest (5 receptacles and all ceiling lights on one leg of the jacuzzi circuit.)

I need to get these folks to have me fix this mess.

Instead of cycling all of your customers breakers when you first got there, why don't you remove the panel cover and test each breaker for voltage instead? Seems silly to me to shut off customers appliances/equipment unnecessarily.

I know I'd be cranky if I had to reset all my clocks/power down computers because the electrician couldn't waste two minutes to remove a panel cover. Which you ended up doing anyways....

This is why I never use CH for anything. I personally think their products are trash. I experianced a very similar situation.

Yes Mr. Cow,
I agree what you suggest is more professional and also gets more information.

BTW, these breakers were the tan ones.

Very surprising to see that DP no tripped but no working.
