I was able to speak with the manufacture today and they explained that the LA has a granular silicon make up and should have a infinite reading when new. The way you can tell if it has been damaged is that you actually have continuity between any of the leads and/or a gas vent pops out of the sealed bottom. Always a good day when you learn something new the easy way.
