A day in the life of a South Florida electrician, FWIW.

I see here often talk about pouring pole bases. This is the only method of installing parking lot lighting I have done.

32' poles direct buried 7' deep.

Bring on the OSHA comments.

So no base huh? Where do the conduits enter? Never seen poles quite like that.

There is a black poly pipe that runs from the head to the J-box then it transitions to PVC and 90's out of the pole 20" below grade.

Very common in street lighting and traffic signals. Strain poles made to FDOT specs. Both have conduit run inside the pole. Mounting holes for brackets and cables drilled at the factory to order. Conduit stubs out about 3' below grade. Hand holes about 2' above grade. Signal poles have weather head about 3' from the top. Some light poles, conduit goes out the top and cobra light fixture sits in it. Drill a hole, and stick the pole, pour some concrete and go have a beer.

Years ago the company I worked for had a pressure digger just like the one shown in your pic. We bought a boat load of pole anchors made by Chance and they came out to our site to video the installation.

Do they get frost in Florida?:D
Interestingly, yes. Years ago, while on a SCUBA dive trip in central Fla (I don't remember where we were, but it was in manatee country), we got about a foot of snow on New Year's Day.

The dive was still great.

1) How do you level a tapered pole?

B) What do you backfill with ?

3) Do you ever have to go back and level them up? If so, how?

D) What's the weight?
