Tv/ data outlet box or no box

Is there a NEC code that requires a Jbox for television and data outlets in a commercial setting? Or can I just use a mud ring with a 1" conduit w/ bushings through the wall and stubbed out above the ceiling grid?

Nothing in the NEC,check what kind of wall it is, if its a fire rated wall you need to preserve the fire rating.

That makes sense, the wall is non fire rated so I should be able to just run emt down the wall without a box.
