I have a question....

If I have computers, and I want to provide some sort of protection for them, and I have existing power panel with no protection.

Can I do one of two scenarios....

Install receptacles that are isolated ground. Must the panel be already equipped with a iso ground bus, or can another method be used such as a plate mounted on the wall or is it necessary for it to be apart of the panel??

Second, have you heard of the TVSS receptacles?? Do you suggest using those instead??

What to do?? :)

P.S. I must be tired, I'm writing cripted messages!!

Hi. Try to restate your question. It is not clear what you are asking. OK?

Re: TVSS outlets and Isolated grounding...

Isolated ground receptacles are usually installed to avoid ground loops on signal wiring that is used to network computer equipment together. It does not provide any additional protection to the hardware in any real sense.

TVSS receptacles will offer some additional protection to your computer hardware but if you can run a separate circuit for the computer equipment then it would make much more sense to install the TVSS protection at the panel. This would protect the circuit at it's origin and since most transients originate outside the home that is the best place to protect the wiring. The TVSS should provide protection to all of the circuits that serve the computer including ant telephone, network or cable service. Making sure that all wired utilities that enter your home are properly protected and that the protective devices are effectively grounded is the vital first step in protecting solid state devices from damaging transients.

Wouldn't you like to see multi level TVSS protection at the main service and at the utilization outlet be it a TVSS outlet or TVSS power strip. I prefer the power strip types epically in residential applications, due to ease of replacement. Additionally some sort of indicating light to verify operation.
