Anyone using TWACS? Had any complaints about clocks?
It's my understanding that the GPS satellites use 60Hz over North America, 50Hz over Europe.
So now that the North American Grid frequency can drift, will we need to go to Europe just to know where we are?![]()
Not to mention that the Earth is slowing down and the continents are drifting so we are in a constant state of flux. Oh the horror! It's my understanding that the GPS satellites use 60Hz over North America, 50Hz over Europe.

But once the Space Elevator is in place they will be connected to the grid. The higher velocity objects in space experience a different time so they will have to be coupled through the Heisenberg Space-Time Conversion Module (pronounced HESP-COM for short). Why on earth would GPS be locked to hz?
The time signals are internal to the GPS system not connected to the grid.
And caused me to waste another perfectly good post since I did not catch your post in time. Must be the grid.I guess I missed the joke.
Sorry, I was hoping someone knew right off the bat. Two Way Automated Communication System. (TWACS) it is an automated meter reading program that sends us readings through low frequency power line communications.
This signal rides along on the 60 hZ wave right at the zero crossing.
When the signal puts a small load on the line for reading, apparently the tiny blip in the wave causes digital clocks to speed up because the clocks count this when they convert to square wave for the counter to use.
Had a customer call in to report his clocks are gaining about five minutes a week. Just curious if anyone else has run into this problem.
Why didn't you just say "smart meters"?:?![]()
Plus, you say smart meters and some want to start in on the fabled health hazards. [/QUOTE
Since one was put on the side of my home my hair has gone gray and I have more lines on my face, it must be the smart meter. I won't even go into what it has done to my wife.hmy:
If I am on the correct subject then my answer to the OP is no it hasn't affected any of my own clocks as the ones I have are battery backed up and have it own reference crystal as a reference, but if we are going to see it it will show up in our simple time clock we use on lighting as these have synchronous motors in them that do use the grid frequency to maintain time, very few clocks of today use the grid for a reference, but the good ole Intermatic mechanical time switch's still do like the T-101-104s and many others
The GPS satellites all have really long extension cords and are connected to commercial power systems at the surface. If GPS service goes down it is usually because an airplane went through restricted space and pulled the cord out of the receptacle:lol:Why on earth would GPS be locked to hz?
