Distance from pool> I measure the distance from the inside walls of pool which is 5 foot. I had an inspector tell me that the distance is 5 foot from the outside wall of the pool and rejected the installation. The way I was always taught was to measure over horizontally and then down. Which is correct?

See 680.22(A)(1)

Measured 5' from the inside edge of the pool

I believe it was 680-22, I am out of town and don't have my codebook with me, so I thought this would be the best way to get the answer.

If you are using the T.L receptacle as the main. disc. means then yes-you are correct,it shall be loacted at LEAST 5' horizontally from the INSIDE walls of the pool. Not sure why you other gentelmen are referring 680-22,in
08 code this measurment is 10' from the inside walls, either way the measurements I see are from the INSIDE not the OUTSIDE....

Referring to 2005 NEC, we are not using 2008.

Are you saying that I could put the receptacle 2' from the inside wall of the pool providing that the receptacle is 3' below the top of the pool wall ?

Check out 680.22(A)(6)

(6) Measurements. In determining the dimensions in this section addressing receptacle spacings, the distance to be measured shall be the shortest path the supply cord of an appliance connected to the receptacle would follow without piercing a floor, wall, ceiling, doorway with hinged or sliding door, window opening, or other effective permanent barrier.
