I currently have one duplex receptacle serving a counter in the kitchen. Due to space available, I can't add another duplex box. I can however, change the duplex to a fourplex-two separate duplex outlets in one double gang box. Because of potential heavy loads, I would put each duplex on a separate circuit, thus two breakers would serve that double gang box. I know that would be non-typical, but is there actually anything in the NEC that would prohibit that? I would put a note in the box for anyone else who may work on it in the future.
