I have a duplex with a common hallway between the two units. Does the Code require a receptacle in that common hallway ?
(Code reference, please)

over 10' long? exit corridor? multifamily of 2family dwelling?
Those factors are irrelevant to the question.

Unless the "hallway" is actually the ground level exterior entrance/egress area the OP is attempting to comply with 210.52(E)(1) or (E)(2) where applicable, the reference given to the common area (not being a dwelling hallway) is 210.52(H). Now depending on the "location" in question as stated you might get one there from my first reference. However, only the OP knows the location facts.

Just some thoughts to support which direction you (as the designer) are leaning.

The OP has not given enough info for a accurate answer -- I do not respond with blinders on & try to get full info. Oh masterful one

Fair enough...;)

I thought the question was simple....I got a duplex that shares a common area outside that looks very much like a Hallway. Do I treat it as a hallway and require a receptacle in accordance with section 210.52(H)...and the answer is NO. But I gave a good argument for getting one out there (if it applies) because as someone said its just a good idea...and all good ideas need a foundation of support...and I like being that pillar of support.

Its all good fella....my blinders are old, rotten and see-through so I need a new pair...;)

What may raise concern is which one of the tenants electric service will it be coming from?

You may want to put 2 receptacles in that hall (each side, one off each tenant). So it's fair as far as usage/billing goes.

A good point. There's no "house" panel, so someone has to own the usage at the outlet.

And a sign that lets the lawn care guy know to use his electric leaf blower proportionally between the 2 receptacles.

Would each occupancy be required to have an outdoor receptacle?

(OP) It was a question posed to me over the phone and there was limited input. I understood the "hallway" to be an interior hall between two
dwelling units (apartments) with one exterior entry to the hall.

IMO, the hallway receptacle 210.52(H) requirement does not apply to this application. I see it as a "similar area" as hallways of hotels, motels, condominium, apartments...

But, A good design out one in for each just to fair for each tenant.

Also put a sign on each receptacle

"dear gardener, please use the other receptacle"

First of all thank you for understanding the humor in my jest -- My example would have been a two family dwelling (additional ADU to single family) in which there is no house panel but has a common hallway accessing OCPD's. The hall would be in one of the dwellings.
As I have read now this duplex occupancy which is described as a condominium has a hall as a means of egress in which lighting would be required. Also, if this is a condo as described then there should be a house panel per 210.25.
Though commentary is not code it's a useful tool and does refer to common hallways in condo as not to apply per 210.52(H).
Merry Christmas to all & have a splendid New Years :D

The hallways are not "inside" the individual dwelling area in a large apartment building. Therefore not required, but if installed should they be TR?
