I am looking to install a 2 pos. meter w/ 1 100 amp breaker and 1 200 amp breaker. There Is presently a 100 amp service w/ two meters. The owner wants to upgrade to a 200 amp service. My question is ,is it alright to put a 200 amp and a 100 amp breaker in a 200 amp meter cabinet?the load is presently only about 25 amps and less on all 4 legs. The reason for the 200 amp breaker is because it is doing two panels one on the first floor and one in the basement. the 100 amp breaker will be doing a panel on the second floor.thanks in advance

Re: two family house

never heard of a panel with 2 differnt mains are we attempting to use the structure as a multi family dwelling or is it being used that way now?

Re: two family house

what you may be wanting is a 200 amp main distribution panel with a 100 amp feeder feeding each of the two "sub-panels" in the home. The next question would be do you still want a meter for each unit?

Re: two family house

Yes i need to seperate the top floor from the other two and meter it that way.I know they make a 400 amp meter that accepts two mains but he only needs a 200 amp service. Can i use that meter pan ,feed the service w 200 amp cond?

Re: two family house

Cutler Hammer used to make a meter stack with up to a 200Amp tenet breaker. Don't know if they still do.
Here's an option, if OK with AHJ. Install two seperate meters, each with it's own riser to its own panel. One will be a 200Amp panel, the other a 100Amp panel. If the panel is located more than X feet (X being whatever local code says) away from meter then install an appropriate sized disconnect below meter or next to other panel.
