Two family with a detached rental

Hello.
A gentleman will be stripping and repaving his driveway.
The property has a two family dwelling and a separate small bungalow that he rents.

He would like to get power from the two family out to the detached garage with 4 doors.

I'm thinking he would need power from each of the two family panels and also from the detached building panel.

It's impossible getting through to the building department right now (have two voice messages to them), and figured I would ask the questions here.


There is none BUT if there was a house panel could power come from that one house panel?

Can power come from any ONE of the three panels (actually, the two family has two panels and a two pole breaker feeding the detached building so I'm guessing if the detached building was required to have power to the garage it would have to derive from the detached house)

He's talking about EV charging. if there were 60 amp charges lets say for one garage typical, Could a 60 amp panel feed that garage with charger and lighting and recept's or would the panel need to be larger than 60 amp.

Lastly, if just twenty amp circuits were brought out, can one raceway be used for circuits from two or three different panels.

If I recall, you are only allowed to bring one feeder or branch circuit to a separate structure, so I don't believe you would be able to bring two or three circuits out there, regardless of whether they originate in different panels.

Who is paying for the electricity? As long as the owner is paying for all of the electricity it doesn't really matter where the juice comes from. But you can't force tenant a to pay for tenant b or tenant c.

Sounds like he needs a separate service for the detached garage. He could add a little to each rental to help with the cost. As was mentioned, you can't have multiple feeds or circuits to a building.
