Has anyone ever had to do this and assuming the customer will pay for an area separation wall how was this wall constructed??

I don't remember two drops, just one drop to a multigang metersocket. Common wall was 5/8 rock, firetaped, all the way to roof, both units.
If it's truly a duplex (as opposed to a townhouse, condo, etc) the building inspectors in this area would require the separating wall to be a 4 hour wall constructed of masonry and extending thru the roof in order for it to be calssoifed as "two structures"
