Your building code will reference ASTM C-636.2.7.2. Unfortunately I can't provide a link as this was on my previous machine and its a pay only standard. If one of the computer savvy guys can find this for free...

In Austin, the requirement to independently support troffers is local amendment to the NEC for the municipal electrical code.

You nailed that one. It seems the new building code uses a lot a references to other ,very expensive, standards. Rather than print the information. The ASTM, ASI, ACI etc, would cost about $3500 to buy all the referenced standards. I don't know about other states but, California passed a law that says, a code must be available for free if a government agency is enforcing it. So to make more money the ICC has changed how it writes the code. The real crappy part is some of the standards are over $300.00 each and they are not that many pages, maybe 80 pages.
