Type MC Cables in Conduits

Hi,

Is it possible to use type MC Cables in the Rigid metal conduits. Is it permitted in NEC to use the same.

We need to run a 250feet cable from MCC to DB. Initial 60feet run would be in a Rigid metal conduit & the rest would be in a Cable tray. Please clarify this to me.

If the above is not permitted, what type of cable to be used for the above application.

Welcome to the forum.:)

I agree with Bob that MC cable is permitted to be installed in a raceway, but also remind you that the MC cable sheath must be grounded and bonded. The insulated EGC in the MC cable must be used in conjunction with the metallic sheath for it to qualify as an equipment grounding conductor in accordance with 250.118(10).

You did not give us any sizes. Could be hard to pull MC if the rigid is not large enough.
Any reason you could not put a box on the ends of the rigid and run thhn in the rigid and change over to MC ?

Type MC Cable in Rigid conduit

The problem is we have an existing Cable which is running in the conduit for about 60 feet on both the MCC side & load side. In between it is running in an Cable tray for about 150 feets. We are planning to replace the existing cable with the new MC cable which is already procured.

The existing conduit is about 1.5 inches in diameter. The conduit bends(body) are of normal closed type. There is no option for pulling the cable.

Please help me in resolving this issue.

I think they will have a very hard day trying to pull another cable in.
Is there a problem with temp cut off on the old one ?
