I have been reading through Article 334 of the 2008 NEC "Nonmetallic-Sheathed Cable: Types NM, NMC, and NMS" to try and find out if it is acceptable to use this type of cable in a hotel. I have seen it done, however, someone once told me that this type of cable is not allowed in structures that are higher than 3 stories tall. Please direct me to any section of the NEC that might help me out.

Thanks!

Where are the definitions for types I, II, III, IV, and V construction? Is there a section defining this? Thanks.

Did the NEC repeal that section where you cannot use type NM cable in structures that are higher than 3 stories tall? I cannot find it under article 334. (2008 code)

(2008 code)[/quote]The NEC took out the height requirements one or two cycles ago. Replaced it with type I & II construction. I see in the '08 code, there is now an exception for types I & II if the romex is installed in raceways. '08 334.12(A)(1) exception.

ok, if romex has to be installed in raceways to meet the type I and II exceptions, then why bother using romex in the first place?
