I am beginning a residential project using the AAC block wall construction. The process will be "routing" a groove in the block surface and laying our wiring in place. The final finish will be a plaster coating. Is MC cable my best option here?

I would say even nm would be fine.

Edit: I have never wired in this situation so this is my opinion site unseen.

"Routing" your grooves will be pure hell. It will be slow, dusty, and grind up the bits in record time.

Far better is to use a 2-bladed saw, that cuts two slots about 3/4" apart, then knock the center portion out with a cold chisel. Flex makes the saw http://www.flexnorthamerica.com/products/MS1706FR.php , and that center section will break free with just a tap to the side.

In tight spaces you use an SDS roto-hammer with a chisel bit.

Any wiring method, including NM, is allowed. The usual practice (in Europe) is to use a smurf-tube like product.
