Artical 336 states that TC cable is intended to be used in cable trays and race ways. 336.10 6 states that it must be secured every 6 feet. An outside electricial contractor says that it is within code to run the cable accross bar joists to cross a room in an industrial plant as long as the bar joists are less than 6 feet apart. This is on top of the lower angle iron of the bar joist. I believe that he is incorrect, what do you think?

Re: Type TC cable

John,

I Agree With You On This Point. If You Read Section 336.10(2) It States That TC Cable Can Only Be Used In Cable Trays, Raceways, Or Outdoors Supported By A Messenger Wire.

More To Your Point 336.10(6) Says That TC Cable Can Be Used In Industrial Facilities But It Must Be Continuously Supported .

Re: Type TC cable

Supporting and Securing are two different things.

A cable might meet the requirements of Supporting, but it would still have to be Secured.
