We recently upgraded an Imax theatre projection system to 3-D. The projectors move on transporters. The Imax specs required 2/0 welding cable(type W). The projectors are powered by DC output from rectifiers. Our inspector failed us claiming that welding cable cannot be used as fixed wiring. Can you help justify type W cable or recommend another?

Type "W" portable power cable is found in Table 400.4. Article 400.7(A)(10) allows the use of cords and cables for moving parts.

Type W and Welding cable are not the same. Welding cable is not a listed power cable, Type W is.
