I have apartment complex dwelling unit where condensing unit in outdoor balcony is being replaced. They are using UF cable from dwelling unit panelboard for branch circuit.

The note says the following:

Provide new branch circuit in conduit from the panelboard thru attic to new condensing unit. Wiring outside exposed to weather shall be routed in metallic conduit with weather resistant coating with AHJ approval UL wire maybe used. Protect UF cable in accordance with NEC 2014.

Only part confusing is when UF cable is outside it says to route in metallic conduit with weather resistant coating. Is this allowable for UF cable? I looked at 340.10(4) which refers to 334 NM cable but 334.15(B) says only use EMT, RMC, IMC.

Is the question "by Code, can UF be installed in a conduit" ?

Yes. I would assume that they're referring to LFMC.

Not sure which metallic conduit they are referring to.

Would it still be ok if UF cable is not listed for sunlight resistant but the conduit in which the UF not listed for sunlight resistant is installed has weather resistant coating?

The raceway needs to be listed for the environment. UF cable inside the raceway would not be subject to sunlight.

It sounds to me like it's saying IF you use UF, not that you must.
