They are quite useful for some people. I have the 2008 version. It has all the tables, ohms law stuff. series and parallel resistance problems.

Here is the Table of Contents

I could not live with out mine~ Most of it is second nature but still a good guide when you forget. I would recommend getting 2 one for the office one for the truck, its easier than carring around your NEC 2011 or 08 and has a lot of the same information.

They have cable sizes, Kcmil and amps
Voltage drop formulas
FLA of motors
NEMA ratings
Transformer calculations
Simple wire circuits and such

Be careful , the 2011 has changed some of the ampacities in table 310.15. You could save money and buy the 2008 and just make the corrections by hand since there are only 10 or so changes.

I put this on my Amazon.com wish list last December, in order to give my family members an easy way to shop for my Christmas gift. My older daughter bought it for me, but really thought I had gone off the deep end. I can't blame her, since the book has a very strange title.

The name "Ugly's" comes from the author's nickname in his younger days, when he was a boxer.

Many of the electricians I know have them and use them. I have found they tend to take the conservative route.. not necessarily a bad thing... but sometimes with actual calculations you might end up with a smaller conduit, etc.
